How to Fix a Tunneling Candle
Fixing a Tunneling Candle: Don’t Toss It, Save It!
What is tunneling?
Tunneling happens when the wax burns straight down the center, leaving wax stuck to the sides of the jar.
Step 1: The Foil Method
- Wrap aluminum foil around the rim of the candle jar.
- Leave an opening at the center for the flame.
- Burn for 1-2 hours — the trapped heat will melt the leftover wax.
Step 2: Let It Burn Long Enough
- Always let the wax melt all the way to the edges (especially during the first burn).
- Aim for 2-4 hours on the first use to set the candle’s memory.
Step 3: Trim the Wick
- Always trim your wick to ¼ inch before lighting.
- A long wick can cause uneven burning and contribute to tunneling.
Step 4: Use a Candle Warmer (Optional)
- If the flame can’t fix it, place your candle on a warmer to melt the wax evenly.
- Great for scent throw without burning!
